At the end of this module, you will be able to: Define basic concepts, principles, and common designs for clinical trials and biomedical studies including: Placebo control and active control Randomization Blinding and Stratification
Focus on common statistical concepts of measurement in medical studies and medical practice: -Scale of measurement: quantitative, qualitative (a.k.a. categorical) -Outcome of measure: prevalence, survival rates -Numerical summary of data: centrality of measurement (mean, median, mode) -Graphical display of data: the shape of the distribution
Evaluate diagnostic tests and/or screening tests including: -Conditional probability -Sensitivity and specificity as conditional probabilities -Predictive value of positive screening tests or diagnostic tests
