Merrin Shoulder Examination


Welcome to the Merrin Shoulder Examination module.

Our objectives are to review the basic anatomy and physiology of the shoulder, review the common problems that cause shoulder pain and how to distinguish between them based on history and physical exam, and then to demonstrate the physical exam of the shoulder. Our last section will focus on how to treat common shoulder problems, when and what type of images to order and when to refer to a specialist.

Learning Objectives:

1. Review the anatomy and kinesiology of the shoulder
2. Distinguish between various pain syndromes of the shoulder, including: -Impingement syndrome and Rotator cuff pathology -AC arthritis/sprain -Adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) -Glenohumeral arthritis -Instability/Labral Tear -Biceps tendonitis -Cervical Radiculopathy
3. Demonstrate the physical exam of the shoulder
4. Increase confidence in evaluating and treating shoulder complaints
